Bala Ciroma, Nigeria's Sherlock Holmes, appointed FCT Compol

A crack investigator, Commissioner of Police Bala Ciroma, on Thursday assumed office as the new Commissioner of Police for the Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
A statement by the command’s Spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, said Ciroma took over from Mr Sadiq Bello after a handing-over ceremony.
Ciroma holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree in Geography from the University of Maiduguri.
Details of his appointment are contained in a statement in Abuja on Thursday by the Command’s Spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah.
The statement read: “The FCT Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that a new Commissioner of Police has been posted to the Command.
“He is CP Bala Ciroma who resumed duty at the Command Headquarters on Thursday, 19th July, 2018. He took over from his predecessor, CP Sadiq Abubakar Bello after a handing-over ceremony.
“CP Bala Ciroma holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree in Geography from the prestigious University of Maiduguri.
Ciroma was appointed into the Nigeria Police Force in March 1990 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).”
According to the statement, Ciroma has served the Nigeria Police Force in different capacities and attended several courses within and outside the country.
“He is an alumni of Hong Kong University where he bagged a Post Graduate Certificate in Corruption Studies. He is a member of Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE),” the statement added.

Manzah said that Ciroma, who had served the force in different capacities, attended several local and foreign courses.
“He is an alumni of Hong Kong University, where he bagged a Post Graduate Certificate in Corruption Studies. He is a member of Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE),”he said.
He said that Ciroma assured residents of his willingness to partner with spirited individuals, groups and all security agencies in the fight against crimes and criminality in the territory.
The commissioner enjoined resident to support the command with timely information about criminal hideouts through its emergency numbers: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653and 08028940883.
Before his posting he was briefly a Commissioner of Police in Plateau State after serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Abuja. He has received endorsements for Criminal Investigation on his LinkedIn profile.
Ciroma, an internationally acclaimed crime fighter has been Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, FCT Command having served as Head of Operations, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
As of 2016, he was a member of the Police Service Commission (PSC) that promoted four Commissioners of Police to the next rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police.
Also in 2016, he was a member of a Police committee inaugurated by the IGP to review the Nigeria Police investment companies and subsidiaries, and produce a white paper within a month.
The investments were: the Nigeria Police Cooperative, the NPF Pensions Ltd, the Police Property Development and Construction Company, the Police Microfinance Bank, the Police Health Maintenance and the NPF Mortgage Bank.
