Banditry: Zamfara govt imposes curfew in Sokoto, Katsina borders

The Zamfara State Government has announced the immediate imposition of a curfew along its borders with Katsina and Sokoto states, effective from 7:00 p.m to 6:00 a.m.

The decision was revealed by the State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Manir Haidara, during a press briefing in Gusau on Tuesday.

Haidara emphasised that the directive emerged from the State Security Council Meeting.

“As from today, the state government has ordered restriction of movement along Yankara border of Zamfara with Katsina state and Bimasa Zamfara border with Sokoto state from 7:00 p.m to 6:00 a.m daily,” stated Haidara.

He further elucidated that the move aimed to combat the rampant kidnapping of travelers along the Sokoto-Gusau-Funtua highway. This measure is part of the state government’s concerted efforts to mitigate and address kidnapping activities perpetrated by bandits, particularly along highways in the state.

All motorists and travelers have been directed to comply with the government’s order, with security agencies tasked to ensure strict adherence to the curfew along the two borders.
