Bandits kill 10, injure 1 in attack on mining site

At least 10 people were killed and one person injured when armed insurgents stormed a local mining site in Karaga Village, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to a security analyst and counterinsurgency expert in the Lake Chad, Zagazola Makama, the attack happened on February 26, but the news was received on Sunday, March 2, due to communication challenges.
The assailants, arriving on motorcycles, fired indiscriminately before specifically targeting miners and local residents. The victims were identified as Lurwsnu Saidu (32), Zubairu Ibrahim (27), Tasiu Danlami (31), Zanaidu Ibrahim (36), Haliru Ibrahim (33), Abbas Abdulhamid (40), Uzairu Ibrahim (32), Umaru Aliyu (22), Dahiru Fadama (29), and Alheri Gambo (21), the only female victim.
Another victim, Sabiu Yakubu (25), sustained a gunshot wound to his right hand and is currently receiving treatment at Erena Comprehensive Health Centre.

Sources indicated that the attackers are part of a terrorist network operating in Shiroro LGA, where armed groups have frequently targeted mining sites, villages, and security personnel in recent months.
When contacted the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Niger State Command, he said the police were not aware of the incident.
“Will verify please. Yet to receive such report,” he stated.
