BBC bosses quit over Trump documentary scandal
The Director-General of the BBC, Tim Davie, and the corporation’s Head of News have resigned following mounting criticism over alleged bias at the broadcaster — including controversy surrounding the editing of a documentary about U.S. President Donald Trump.
Their resignations come after a leaked internal report by a former standards adviser, published by The Daily Telegraph, accused the BBC of editorial failings in its coverage of the Israel-Hamas war, transgender issues, and Trump’s speech.
The White House recently branded the BBC a “propaganda machine” after its Panorama programme was found to have spliced two sections of Trump’s address in a way that appeared to show him inciting the January 6th Capitol riots.

Davie, who has led the BBC since 2020, said he was stepping down after reflecting on “the intense personal and professional demands” of managing the broadcaster “in these febrile times.”
Once widely regarded as a global standard for impartial journalism, the BBC has in recent years faced growing accusations of bias and political pressure from both sides of the spectrum. The leaked report alleged that BBC Arabic exhibited anti-Israel bias in its Gaza coverage and that reporting on sensitive trans issues was suppressed by a small internal group.
The corporation, funded by a mandatory licence fee paid by UK households, has also been the subject of public scrutiny over its funding model and perceived liberal leanings. It has weathered several scandals — from sports presenter Gary Lineker’s outspoken immigration comments to criticism for airing anti-Israel performances and pulling a Gaza documentary linked to a Hamas official’s family member.

The dual resignations mark one of the most turbulent moments in recent BBC history, raising fresh questions about the broadcaster’s editorial independence and its ability to maintain neutrality in a politically divided era.
