BESDA educates proprietors on transformation of Tsangaya education in Gombe (Pictures)

Better Education and Service Delivery for All (BESDA) in Gombe State has educated Tsangaya School proprietors on the needs for the transformation of the Tsangaya school system.

A one-day training workshop was organised by BESDA in collaboration with Tazkiyyah Educational Resource centre with the theme “Towards Transformation of the Tsangaya School System to the Needs of the 21st Century”.

The Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya reiterated the commitment of his administration to transform the education sector in the State.

Governor Yahaya who was represented by the Government House Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abubakar Inuwa Kari, said that under the BESDA programme 676 learning centres for boys and girl child pupils were established, 70,000 pupils and girl child enrolled in the centres and 1600 NCE teachers were employed to teach western education in the centres.

He commended the successes recorded by BESDA and commended traditional Quranic school owners for their support of the programme.

The guest speaker at the occasion, Professor Ibrahim Ahmad Makari, Chief Imam of Abuja National Mosque urged Tsangaya school owners to continue to embrace government policies and programmes aimed at developing the skills and capacity of their pupils towards the improvement of the standard of living.

Professor Makari advised Qur’anic teachers and pupils to learn the skills they need to succeed in tomorrow’s competitive world.

He stressed the need for teachers to have a rethink on yesterday’s teaching practices saying, “That’s the rationale behind teaching 21st-century skills, which include high-order abilities like teamwork and critical thinking,” urging them to embrace everything that will ease the way of doing things for the development of the society.

The Scholar urged the government and the society to provide social amenities to its citizenry in order to support Quranic schools to enable them to excel in today’s society.

Chairman of the occasion, Dr Abubakar Sirimbai Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi stressed the importance of seeking Quranic education and urged the Tsangaya school proprietors to embrace all educational programmes that come for the development of the society.

He said western education introduced in schools under BESDA programmes are introduced with the aim to provide technical and skill knowledge that will improve the living standard of the society.

The state’s BESDA Project Coordinator, Dr Abdullahi Bappah Ahmed Garkuwa commended Governor Yahaya for his support towards the development of education in the state.

Dr Garkuwa advised participants to cooperate more with laudable programmes of BESDA to improve the education of their children.
