Blasphemy: Court sentences ‘atheist’, Mubarak Bala, to 36 years in correctional centre

A Kano State-born ‘atheist’, Mubarak Bala, has been sentenced to 36 years in a correctional centre for inciting contempt of religion and breach of public peace.

He was convicted after pleading guilty to the 18 count charges slammed against him by the Kano State Government.

Bala sometime in 2020 posted an alleged blasphemous statement on his Facebook account tagged Mubarak Bala.

Justice Faroukh ordered that the prison terms be commenced when the convict was first arrested and similarly ordered the term to run concurrently.

“By this order, the convict shall serve 24 years in a correctional centre,”  he stated.
