BUK denies allegations, reaffirms admission integrity

Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has denied a viral report alleging misconduct in its admission process, stating that the institution has consistently upheld transparency and fairness.

In a statement issued on Sunday by Deputy Registrar and Head of the Public Affairs Directorate, Lamara Garba, BUK said the misleading information circulating online refers to an incident that occurred during the 2021/2022 Direct Entry admissions.

The university clarified that at the time, its screening process identified several applications submitted with fake results.

SolaceBase reports that those applicants, it said, were promptly denied admission in line with its zero-tolerance policy for academic fraud.

“Rather than a scandal, BUK’s handling of the situation earned its commendation from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB),” the statement noted.

It added that the university received an Award of Excellence and Due Diligence from JAMB in 2023—the first of its kind awarded to any university in Nigeria.

BUK urged the public to disregard the false narrative being shared, reaffirming its commitment to quality, fairness, and transparency in all academic processes.
