Ceasefire would’ve never happened without my team – Trump
US President-elect Donald Trump has claimed that his team’s intervention was instrumental in reaching the ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement between Israel and Hamas.
Speaking on the Dan Bongino Show on Thursday, Trump stated, “If we weren’t involved in this deal, the deal would’ve never happened. We changed the course of it, and we changed it fast.”
The agreement, which proposes a 42-day ceasefire, includes the release of 33 hostages and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza’s population centres. It awaits approval from Israel’s security cabinet, set to meet on Friday.
Trump credited his Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, for helping finalise the deal and criticised outgoing President Joe Biden for attempting to take credit for the agreement.
“Biden didn’t do anything! If I didn’t do this, the hostages would never be out,” Trump said, emphasising the urgency of concluding negotiations before his inauguration on Monday.

Biden, however, had proposed a similar ceasefire plan in May 2024. In an interview with MSNBC, he maintained that he had not recently discussed the matter with Trump, stating the agreement could lead to a “permanent end to the war.”
Israel’s security cabinet will determine whether the ceasefire goes into effect Sunday. Meanwhile, the international community watches closely as efforts toward lasting peace unfold.
