Story from Najibullahi ADAMU, Bauchi

A Non Governmental Organization (NGO) called the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has charged the minister in charge of the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy Dr Isa Ali Pantami and other regulatory bodies of the communication sector to ensure internet security for Nigerians.

Bauchi state programme officer of CITAD, Mujahid Ibrahim gave the charge on Thursday during a sensitization on encryption and internet security organized by the NGO as part of this year’s celebration of the International Day of Encryption to selected youth groups, businessmen and civil society organisations in the state.

He explained that the day is designated to celebrate internet security by preventing unauthorized access to the personal information of internet users by intruders.

Mujahid who pointed out that there are threats on the internet and social media, opined that encryption could protect users.

According to him, CITAD was established with the objective of promoting Information Communication Technology (ICT), democracy and empowering citizens through ICT.

Also speaking, a guest speaker at the event Engineer Zulqalnain Aliyu asserted that encryption is important for security purpose, privacy and confidentiality, adding that with encryption, people would feel safe on the internet.

He, therefore, advocates for the full implementation of the cyber crime laws in the country and formulation of more policies to prevent Nigerian internet and social media users from evils of fraudsters.

He also condemned child pornography being posted on the internet for allegedly corrupting the children and asked parents not to allow little children have access to smart phones, computers as a way of addressing moral decadence in the contemporary society.
