Nigerian-born World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, Anthony Joshua, was Thursday honoured by the Buckingham Palace with the Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) Medal. Joshua was honoured for his outstanding services to boxing and success to the sport.
In its congratulatory message, the Royal Family said: “Congratulations to boxer, Anthony Joshua who received an OBE for services to Sport from The Prince of Wales. He (Joshua) is currently a unified world heavyweight champion, holding three of the four major championships in the sport.” Speaking after receiving his OBE medal, Joshua said: “It’s understanding what I’ve done and I feel like in terms of services to sport it’s like creating an economy and it helps people from different backgrounds.
“In boxing you meet people, you inspire them and they do the same. You never know where it could take someone. That’s important.
“It’s not just the medal, it’s what I’ve done to achieve it.”
An OBE is a Queen’s honour given to an individual for a major role in any activity such as business, charity or the public sector.
