Court halts PDP national convention
The Federal High Court in Abuja has again stopped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from conducting its planned National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Justice Peter Lifu, in a ruling on Tuesday, issued a fresh order restraining both the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from proceeding with or recognising any outcome of the event.
The order followed a suit filed by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, who accused the party of unlawfully denying him the opportunity to purchase the Chairmanship nomination form, thereby excluding him from the convention.

Justice Lifu held that the PDP failed to meet legal requirements for conducting such a convention, including publishing its timetable as required by law. He ruled that Lamido would suffer greater harm if the convention proceeded without his participation.
The judge emphasised that due process must be strictly observed by political parties, warning that any deviation could threaten democratic governance. He further noted that the judiciary has a constitutional duty to uphold justice “without fear or favour.”
Consequently, the court restrained the PDP from holding its national convention on the scheduled dates or at any other location and barred INEC from supervising or recognising any outcome from such a gathering.
