Customs Cares: NCS officially launched its communities empowering program (Pictures)
The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has unveiled its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, “Customs Care,” at the Government Secondary School in Wuse zone 3, Abuja.
This comprehensive program aims to address critical areas such as healthcare, education, social investments, food security, creative economy, and mental stability across Nigerian communities.
According to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashi Adeniyi, the initiative is aligned with President Bola Ahmad Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda. The program’s multifaceted approach reflects the NCS’s commitment to enriching lives and contributing to national development beyond its traditional mandate.
The “Customs Care” initiative will provide various services, including:
Healthcare: The NCS will conduct medical outreach programs, deploy mobile clinics, and implement anti-malaria campaigns to improve community health standards.
Education: The initiative will provide learning materials, rehabilitate schools, and offer scholarships to promote academic excellence.

Social Investments: The NCS will initiate water borehole projects, support electricity infrastructure, and facilitate skills acquisition programs to enhance community livelihood.
Food Security: The program will support agricultural extension services, provide food donations, and improve market access for farmers to bolster food security.
Creative Economy: The initiative will invest in capacity building, equipment support, and talent development to nurture Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and promote the creative economy.
Environmental Sustainability: Strategic tree-planting activities will be undertaken to create a greener and safer environment, promoting environmental sustainability.
To fund this initiative, the Comptroller General of Customs announced that 4% of the annual wages of NCS officers will be deducted and allocated to support the “Customs Care” program, demonstrating the NCS’s commitment to giving back to the community.
By engaging in these diverse CSR activities, the NCS demonstrates its commitment to actively contributing to the well-being and prosperity of Nigerian communities, beyond its traditional roles in trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
