Customs CG Adeniyi champions work-life balance with 6.6-kilometer endurance walk
In a notable demonstration of dedication to personal well-being and the success of the Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR led a ‘Walk Life Balance’ covering 6.6 kilometers at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on the morning of January 6, 2024.
This fitness initiative, a regular practice for CGC Adeniyi, underscores his commitment to balancing the demands of the customs profession with the imperative of maintaining physical and mental health.
After completing the refreshing walk, CGC Adeniyi emphasized the importance of such exercises for himself and his officers, recognising the challenges they face in their duties, particularly in urban centers.
“We really want to achieve a balance between the rigorous demands of our work and the need to stay fit to stay healthy,” shared CGC Adeniyi in an exclusive interview.
Linking the distance covered during the walk to the ambitious revenue targets set for 2024, CGC Adeniyi expressed confidence in the Service’s ability to achieve its financial goals.

“If you compare the distance of 6.6 kilometers that we covered this morning with the figure of revenue which we want to generate in 2024, then it means we have achieved our revenue targets for 2024.”
CGC Adeniyi’s commitment to a healthy work-life balance sets a precedent for a resilient Nigeria Customs Service in 2024. Additionally, he affirms his commitment to enhance officers’ welfare through a comprehensive infrastructure initiative near Namadi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
This ambitious project includes residential buildings, offices, schools, worship centers, officers’ mess, and a shopping mall, designed to accommodate over 2500 officers.
CGC Adeniyi stated, “This initiative is a testament to our commitment to their well-being” and aligns with his broader agenda to modernize and improve working conditions within the Nigeria Customs Service.
The multifaceted project signifies a positive step towards elevating the living standards of those serving on the frontlines of Customs operations.
