The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) came together in a show of solidarity and collaboration by co-leading a 5km walk aimed at promoting work-life balance and inter-agency cooperation on the 17th August 2024. The event, tagged “Work-Life Balance,” was co-led by Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, and Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Muhammad.

The 5km walk commenced at the FRSC Headquarters around 6 am, with officers and men of both agencies traversing Herbert Macaulay Way to the Wuse Market traffic light and then returning to the FRSC Headquarters via Maputo Street.

Speaking after the event, CGC Adeniyi emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration, particularly in curbing the issue of smuggled vehicles on Nigerian roads. “The essence of this walk is to strengthen the existing relationship among security agencies and to foster the spirit of friendship,” he said. “I am very sure that all my officers and I have really enjoyed the outing. Moving forward, we will be part of this exercise every month.”

Adeniyi also urged officers from both the NCS and FRSC to embrace the spirit of brotherhood in achieving their shared goals. “There are many things we can do together. I implore us all to continue exploring ways to work together because we are stronger when we are united,” he noted.

In his remarks, Corps Marshal Shehu Muhammad highlighted the significance of such collaborative efforts in building a prosperous nation. “Organising social activities and exercises between sister security agencies is key to building a prosperous nation,” Muhammad said. “Good health is not just wealth but also freedom and the best blessing God gives mankind. This exercise will continue monthly because we believe that a healthy workforce is key to productivity.”

Muhammad expressed his appreciation to CGC Adeniyi for his personal attendance, noting that the presence of the Customs team demonstrated a strong partnership and brotherhood between the two agencies. “What the Comptroller-General of Customs and his team showcased this morning reflects the spirit of love and good synergy between us,” he said. “I am confident this partnership will continue.”

The event highlighted the commitment of both agencies to working together towards their common goals, ensuring that smuggled vehicles are kept off Nigerian roads and promoting the health and well-being of their officers.
