Customs to auction seized petrol at ₦400 per litre
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has revealed plans to auction 15,325 litres of seized petrol at a subsidised rate of ₦400 per litre, aiming to ease transportation costs during the festive period.
Announcing the initiative during a press briefing at the Customs Training College, Ikeja, on Saturday, December 21, 2024, the National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, ACG Hussein Ejibunu, stated that the seized petrol, valued at ₦27,565,000, was confiscated in the Lagos-Ogun axis.
“This operation has been ongoing since May 27, 2024, and has produced significant results. The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) has urged operatives to maintain this momentum until the activities of economic saboteurs are eradicated,” Ejibunu explained.

To facilitate the auction, Ejibunu confirmed that all legal processes, including a court condemnation order, had been completed. “The CGC has directed that the seized PMS be auctioned to the public at ₦10,000 per 25 litres, helping to alleviate the transportation challenges of this festive period,” he said.
The NCS has intensified efforts to combat smuggling and economic sabotage, with Operation Whirlwind being a notable success since its launch earlier this year.
This initiative comes as part of broader measures by the Customs Service to ensure the availability of resources and curb illegal activities affecting Nigeria’s economy.
