Damagum, foremost Islamist, dies at 59

The death has occurred yesterday of Mohammed Ilyasu Bello Damagum, a foremost Islamic Religious scholar, in Abuja.
Until his death, he was a director of Media Trust Limited, publishers of Trust newspapers.
He died early morning at Nizamiye, a Turkish hospital in Abuja after a brief illness aged 59.
He was buried in Kaduna at about 2 pm at the Al-Garkawi mosque in Kinkinau.
He graduated in the 1970’s and worked with the defunct Nigeria Shipping Line before venturing into construction business with properties in Abuja, Kaduna and Kano.
He was recently named as Chairman of one of the Abuja Investment Company, an FCT parastatal.
He left behind an aged mother, brothers, among whom is Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, wives, children and grandchildren.
