Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, Yobe state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Gubernatorial candidate, has expressed the party’s potency despite losing their state chairman, Alhaji Sani Inuwa Nguru, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) recently.
In a press briefing today in Potiskum, he stated that “it is a season of cross carpeting that everyone is changing to where it suits him. But it does not come to us as a surprise because he joined us in this party through the same process and at the eve of elections like this. But you know human behavior is situational and it all depends on what he feels at a particular time.”
He added “he did not tell us why he is leaving the party, but we are comfortable with the simple fact that his son is contesting to be a member of the State House of Assembly on the platform of our party in Nguru”.
Responding to a question from our correspondent on how prepared for this election he is, the candidate said he is well prepared and optimistic that he will succeed.
It would be recalled that on Thursday, merely 48 hours to the 2019 Presidential and National Assembly elections, the state chairman of the party dumped it for the APC.
The rejection of the PDP by its erstwhile popular and charismatic chairman is seen by political pundits across the state as a development that will further affect negatively the slim chances of the party in the election.
