Dr Mainasara Kogo resumes as CCT boss, vows to uphold integrity, fight corruption
The Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Dr Mainasara Umar Kogo, has called on public servants and political officeholders to strictly adhere to asset declaration requirements and shun corruption, which he described as a major impediment to Nigeria’s development.
He stressed that failure to comply with asset declaration is a punishable offence.
Dr. Kogo made this statement during his inaugural interactive meeting with the management and staff of the CCT at its headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting marked his formal assumption of office following his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He pledged to fully discharge his constitutional mandate and to prioritise efficiency in the Tribunal’s operations.
Citing Section 15(5) of the 1999 Constitution, Dr. Kogo reiterated the state’s obligation to combat corruption and abuse of office. He underscored the CCT’s role as a court of special jurisdiction dedicated to the swift adjudication of cases.
Under his leadership, he assured stakeholders that cases would be handled expeditiously, aligning with the principles of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
Dr. Kogo also solicited the cooperation of legal practitioners to strengthen the Tribunal’s impact.
Reflecting on his journey since his appointment on July 13, 2024, Dr Kogo revealed ongoing efforts to secure increased funding for the Tribunal.
He highlighted plans to upgrade its infrastructure, including the establishment of zonal offices, to reduce the burden on other institutions such as the EFCC and ICPC, which currently rely on regular courts for prosecutions.
Dr. Kogo expressed deep gratitude to President Tinubu for entrusting him with this significant responsibility.
He assured the President of his commitment to supporting the administration’s agenda through the effective functioning of the Tribunal. He also pledged to improve staff welfare, including timely promotions for eligible personnel.
Having previously served as the CCT’s Chief Registrar before his departure 21 years ago, Dr Kogo emphasised the importance of collaboration with lawmakers to enhance the Tribunal’s operations and elevate the working conditions of its workforce.
In her welcome address, CCT member Justice Julie Anabor urged staff to provide the necessary support and resources to enable the new chairman to succeed.
Describing the CCT as a unified family, she emphasised the importance of teamwork, dedication, and respect for authority. She also prayed for wisdom and divine guidance for Dr. Kogo as he led the Tribunal to greater heights.
Established in 1989 and enshrined in the Fifth Schedule, Part I of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Code of Conduct Tribunal is a unique adjudicated body tasked with upholding integrity in public service by enforcing the Code of Conduct for Public Officers which includes, the President, Vice President, Governor, Deputy Governor, Ministers of the Federation and commissioners of states.
Others are members of the National Assembly and Houses of Assembly of States.
