Dress Code Breach: Member walked out of House of Reps proceedings

The House of Representatives tactfully walked out a member on Wednesday for improper dressing.

The House rules strictly enforce a dress code for members attending plenary, requiring them to wear a suit and tie or traditional attire with a matching cap.

Towards the end of the day’s proceedings, an unidentified member entered the plenary session and took a seat in the second chamber used as an alternative by the members.

Hon. Billy Osaweru (APC, Edo) raised a point of order, drawing attention to the member’s attire, which clearly violated the dress code of the House.

Osaweru stated, “Mr. Speaker, our rules stipulate the necessity of proper attire during plenary sessions. If you look upstairs, Mr. Speaker, you will find a member in the chamber wearing a T-shirt and jeans.”

While Osaweru was addressing the point of order, the member promptly stood up and left the chamber. Speaker Tajudeen Abbas acknowledged the compliance with the point of order, saying, “Point of order duly noted.”
