Ebonyi: Farmer, 2 sons killed in Ishiagu community

A shocking act of violence has claimed the lives of a farmer and his two sons in Amaeze, Ishiagu community, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The victims were reportedly attacked and killed by suspected herdsmen while working on their farmland on Friday.

Reacting to the tragic news, the Executive Chairman of Ivo Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Ajah Emmanuel Ogbonna, expressed deep sadness and vowed to ensure justice. “It is with sadness that I received the news of the brutal killing of three of my people who went to their farmland for farming activities. Regrettably, this evil act happened to a father and his two sons,” he stated.

He condemned the killings, describing them as an “evil act,” and assured that the government would intensify efforts to protect lives and property in the region. Ajah emphasized that a collaborative effort is underway involving local and state security forces, community leaders, and youth representatives to address the issue and prevent future attacks.

Following the incident, the local government authorities convened an emergency security meeting with stakeholders, including military personnel, police, Department of State Services (DSS), and local community leaders. The chairman assured the public that proactive measures would be put in place to prevent further escalation and to maintain peace in the area.

Ajah also expressed gratitude to the community for remaining calm and patient in this challenging time. Reflecting on similar incidents in the past, he praised his constituents for their resilience and urged youth in the area to stay vigilant and support security efforts.

Confirming the incident, Ebonyi State Police Command spokesperson Joshua Ukandu stated that police officers were actively conducting operations in the area to identify and apprehend those responsible. “Our officers are conducting operations in the area to fish out the perpetrators of this dastardly act,” Ukandu said.

In a heartfelt statement, Hon. Ajah pledged that the government would go to any length to bring the attackers to justice. “I strongly vow that the perpetrators of this ugly act shall be brought to book no matter what it might cost the government,” he asserted, emphasizing that the lives of the local people must not be taken lightly.

As the community mourns the loss, the local authorities have assured the residents that they will not rest until those responsible are held accountable.
