ECOWAS leaders convene in Abuja as Tinubu’s tenure nears end
As President Bola Tinubu’s tenure as the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS comes to an end on July 9, 2024, leaders and representatives of 12 member states are gathering at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja for the 63rd Ordinary Summit.
The meeting commenced at 1 pm and is expected to conclude with the announcement of a new chair to lead the regional bloc for the next year. However, there are indications that the leaders might extend Tinubu’s tenure, allowing him additional time to potentially reintegrate Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso into the organisation.

President Tinubu’s leadership has been marked by efforts to strengthen regional cooperation and address significant challenges faced by ECOWAS member states.
