Explosion rocks BUA cement company in Sokoto

Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano

The multi-million dollars BUA Cement Company commissioned in Sokoto recently by President Muhammad Buhari and some state governors was rocked by explosion, killing 3 people with several parts of the factory destroyed.

According to eyewitness reports, the fire incident was linked to an explosion by tankers carrying fuel and diesel worth N4 million.

They said the tanks that exploded were being repaired by some engineers of the company, when it instantly leaked and exploded, and fire gutted almost all parts of the factory, killing some engineers and factory workers.

It could be recalled that when northern Nigerian government failed to manage the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN), built by late Sir Ahmadu Bello, BUA owner, Abdulsamad Ishaka Rabiu decided to build a cement factory in Sokoto to serve northern states, neighboring countries and other parts of Nigeria.

Unfortunately, just two months after it was commissioned, most of the brand new machines installed in the factory were destroyed in the explosion.

Experts said the explosion will cost the owners of the factory millions of dollars in damages.
