Explosion shakes Kidandan village in Kaduna, 10 children injured

A sense of unease enveloped Kidandan Village in the Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State when an explosion on Saturday afternoon left 10 children injured.

The distressing incident unfolded as the children were innocently playing with an object discovered in the nearby bush, suspected to be a bomb.

Reports indicate that the object unexpectedly detonated, causing significant injuries to the children.

Subsequently, they were swiftly transported to Shika Hospital in Zaria for urgent medical attention.

Village Head Alhaji Abubakar Umar Ruka confirmed the occurrence, mentioning ongoing efforts to compile the names of the victims. He stated, “10 people were injured, and no fatalities were reported; however, they have been taken to the hospital for treatment. I’m currently compiling their names.”

Councilor Abdullahi Ismail, representing Kidandan Ward, corroborated the incident, revealing that the children had stumbled upon the object while fetching firewood in the bush. Ismail explained, “I was informed that the children picked up the object in the bush while looking for firewood. It exploded, causing severe injuries.”

An unnamed community leader recounted witnessing one victim’s exposed intestines, with others sustaining broken legs. As of the reporting time, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, was unreachable for comments.

The community anxiously awaits further investigations and updates from authorities to unravel the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate explosion.
