Fatal Accident in Lokoja: Truck kills 2, injures 4 despite daytime ban
A haulage truck has killed at least two people and injured four others after a fatal accident on the Felele highway in Lokoja, Kogi State, on Tuesday night. The accident occurred at the Felele bus-stop, a location notorious for road crashes.
The incident happened despite a government ban on the daytime movement of heavy-duty vehicles in the state.
A community source confirmed the deaths to SaharaReporters, adding, “Two people died instantly around Felele bus-stop. Meanwhile, the governor said he has banned them (tankers and haulage trucks).”
Eyewitnesses said the truck lost control, ramming into other motorists and pedestrians. Rescue officials arrived at the scene to evacuate the casualties.

This tragedy has sparked renewed concern over the Kogi State Government’s enforcement of its July directive banning the daytime operations of heavy-duty vehicles.
A student leader who spoke with SaharaReporters expressed relief that no students were involved but highlighted the ongoing danger.
“Thankfully, no student was involved this time; those who died and were injured were community people, and that was still sad.
This is another reminder to the government that this road is still a death trap to everyone using it, particularly us, students, who are the most vulnerable,” he said.
In July, Dr. Yusuf Suberu, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Usman Ododo on Road Safety Matters, announced the restriction, which limits trailers, tankers, and other articulated vehicles to operating only between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. daily.

“This regulation is a necessary response to the devastating incidents we have witnessed. It is a strategic measure to reduce road crashes and save lives. The safety of Kogi citizens is paramount,” Suberu said at the time.
Despite the ban, heavy-duty vehicles continue to drive through Lokoja during the day, with little to no enforcement from security agencies. This raises questions about the government’s commitment to addressing the issue.
As a key transit point connecting Nigeria’s north and south, Kogi has consistently seen deadly crashes, particularly along the Felele axis.
