FCTA urges criminals to vacate Abuja city

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has advised individuals with criminal tendencies to leave the city of Abuja. This warning was issued by Mr. Peter Olumuji on Sunday during the ongoing cleanup operations conducted by the FCTA Command and Control Joint City Enforcement Team in various districts of Abuja.

Olumuji highlighted that the FCTA is actively targeting and eliminating criminal hideouts as part of their cleanup operation to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the capital territory.

He revealed that a criminal hideaway near the AYA roundabout and its surroundings in the Asokoro District was successfully dismantled thanks to credible information provided by security agencies.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that during the operation, the team discovered illegal substances in one of the hiding places and successfully dispersed criminals who were posing a threat to the local residents. Although no arrests have been made so far, Olumuji described the situation as a positive development for those passing through the area, especially at night.

He emphasized that the cleanup efforts are part of the FCT Administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the city’s inhabitants. The enforcement team will continue to root out all criminal hideouts within the capital city, making it clear that Abuja will no longer be a refuge for criminals.

Olumuji stated, “We are advising all individuals with criminal tendencies to either change or return to wherever they came from.”

The cleanup operation also extended to other notorious locations known for environmental disturbances such as motor parks, illegal marketplaces, and areas with unattended waste. Key areas, including the Court of Appeal Junction, Federal Secretariat Complex, Eagle Square, and the Nicon Junction axis of Shehu Shagari Way, were cleaned up by the team.

The joint effort involves representatives from the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), as well as security officers.

Kaka Bello, the Deputy Director of Monitoring and Enforcement (AEPB), expressed satisfaction with the collaboration among the various authorities, as it is yielding positive results in the fight against environmental disturbances in Abuja.

Bello emphasized that the agencies will continue to cooperate in order to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the city.
