Female NASS members visit First Lady Oluremi Tinubu

Story from Ibraheem Hamza MUHAMMAD

The female Senators and Members of the House of Representatives recently paid a courtesy visit to the esteemed First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

Expressing her utmost pleasure at the visit, particularly because of her own twelve-year tenure at the Senate, the First Lady kindly advised her fellow female National Assembly Members to remain dedicated to their constituents.

According to a statement by the First Lady’s spokesperson, Busola Kukoyi, Senator Oluremi Tinubu stated during her address, “You are the women here at the National Assembly for the masses, and it is essential that you do not take this responsibility for granted.” Drawing from her own experience as a former lawmaker, she urged them to work together, putting aside party affiliations, as the success of the nation hinges on their collective efforts.

Furthermore, the First Lady encouraged the women to embrace a spirit of open-mindedness, constantly seeking to learn and try new things. She emphasized that this willingness to grow and adapt would give them a significant advantage in fulfilling their responsibilities as lawmakers, particularly as women.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu also shared valuable advice, saying, “When men hold positions of power, they do not see gender. Therefore, as women, we should not engage in fighting against a system that disregards gender equality. Instead, let us focus on leveraging our abilities and merits when striving for power.”

While emphasizing the importance of their duties, the First Lady highlighted the need for the female lawmakers to maintain their femininity in their work.

She encouraged them to bring their unique perspectives and strengths to the table without compromising their inherent qualities as women.

Additionally, she extended her prayers and best wishes to the female lawmakers who currently have pending court cases, hoping for a favorable outcome on their behalf.

During the event, Honorable Kafilat Ogbara, representing Kosofe Federal Constituency, Lagos, spoke on behalf of the female National Assembly members. She expressed their heartfelt congratulations to the First Lady on the success of the 2023 general elections, which brought His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR and Senator Kasshim Shettima GCON into office.

The female National Assembly Members pledged their unwavering support and cooperation in the pursuit of nation-building and offered their assistance whenever the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria required their fellowship.

A total of three (3) Senators and fifteen (15) members of the House of Representatives had the honor of visiting the First Lady, solidifying their commitment to serving the nation with dedication and compassion.
