The Federal Government has approved the immediate recruitment of 1,000 forest guards to strengthen security across forest reserves in Oyo State.
The approval was conveyed during a visit by the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who delivered President Bola Tinubu’s message to residents of Ahoro Esiele in Oriire Local Government Area.
According to presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the initiative is part of urgent measures to address rising security concerns in forested areas of the state.
The statement explained that the recruitment will be carried out in collaboration with the Oyo State Government to enhance surveillance and curb criminal activities within forest reserves.
“As part of immediate measures to strengthen security in the area, President Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State in collaboration with the state government,” the statement said.
The delegation also noted that requests by community leaders for the establishment of a military base in the area would be communicated to the President for further consideration.
Officials added that the move forms part of broader efforts to improve internal security and protect rural communities vulnerable to banditry and other criminal threats.
