FG declares public holidays for Christmas, New Year celebrations
The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Wednesday, December 25th, Thursday, December 26th, 2024, and Wednesday, January 1st, 2025, as public holidays to mark the celebrations of Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, confirmed that the announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo, in his message, extended heartfelt greetings to Nigerians, urging them to take this festive period as an opportunity for reflection on the values of love, peace, and unity that the season represents.
He stressed the importance of this time of year as an occasion to foster harmony and strengthen relationships within families and communities. The Minister also called on Nigerians to remain dedicated to the progress, peace, and unity of the nation, which are essential for the country’s continued development.
“The Christmas season offers us an opportunity for spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us show kindness and goodwill to one another, regardless of our differences,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo stated.
The Minister assured Nigerians of the Federal Government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity throughout the nation.
As he wished Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2025, Dr. Tunji-Ojo expressed confidence that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu’s administration would bring about a better and more prosperous economy in the new year, one that will be admired globally.
