FG deepens ties with Palestine, Saudi Arabia
The Federal Government has further intensified its diplomatic engagements with key Middle Eastern partners, holding separate high-level meetings with representatives of the State of Palestine and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in line with Nigeria’s commitment to active and balanced foreign relations.
On Wednesday in Abuja, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, received the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Nigeria, His Excellency Muhannad Halmouri, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A statement from the Ministry said the meeting was aimed at strengthening the cordial and long-standing bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Palestine.
Discussions during the meeting covered consular cooperation, humanitarian concerns and broader regional developments, particularly as they relate to peace, stability and the welfare of civilians. The two sides also exchanged views on international diplomacy and reaffirmed the importance of sustained dialogue, mutual understanding and collaboration at multilateral forums. Nigeria reiterated its support for diplomatic efforts geared towards peaceful resolution of conflicts and the promotion of justice in the region.
In a separate engagement on Tuesday, the foreign affairs minister hosted the Saudi Arabian Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr Tawfiq Bin Fawzan Rabia, who was accompanied by senior officials from his ministry. The talks focused on deepening Nigeria–Saudi Arabia relations, with special attention on pilgrimage administration and related consular matters.

The meeting reviewed existing frameworks for Hajj and Umrah operations and explored new areas of cooperation aimed at improving logistics, accommodation, health services and overall coordination for Nigerian pilgrims. Both sides expressed a shared commitment to enhancing the welfare and safety of pilgrims, while ensuring more efficient processes and stronger institutional collaboration.
The Ministry noted that the engagements highlight Nigeria’s growing diplomatic presence and its resolve to strengthen practical cooperation with strategic partners. They also reflect the government’s broader foreign policy objective of leveraging diplomacy to protect citizens’ interests abroad, promote humanitarian values and advance Nigeria’s role in regional and global affairs.

Officials said further consultations and follow-up engagements are expected in the coming months to translate the discussions into concrete outcomes that will benefit Nigeria and its partners.
