FG graduates 7,000 forest guards across seven states

The Federal Government has graduated over 7,000 newly recruited forest guards across seven states as part of efforts to strengthen security and reclaim forest areas used by criminal groups.
The graduation ceremonies, held simultaneously in the participating states, marked the completion of a three-month intensive training programme under the Presidential Forest Guards Initiative. The beneficiaries were drawn from Borno, Sokoto, Yobe, Adamawa, Niger, Kwara and Kebbi states.
Speaking at the event, government officials said the initiative was designed to deny bandits, terrorists and kidnappers safe haven in Nigeria’s forests, while complementing the work of conventional security agencies. The guards are expected to be immediately deployed to strategic forest locations within their respective states.
According to authorities, the recruits were trained in physical fitness, patrol operations, intelligence gathering, ethical conduct, human rights, and basic arms handling, in line with established rules of engagement.
The programme is being implemented through collaboration between the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Federal Ministry of Environment, and other security and environmental agencies.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the initiative nationwide, describing the forest guards as a critical layer in Nigeria’s broader security architecture aimed at tackling insecurity and restoring public confidence.
