FIFA World Cup: Lewandowski’s 1st World Cup goal secures victory for Poland against Saudi Arabia

Former Bayern Munich star, Robert Lewandowski, on Saturday afternoon scored his first World Cup goal in the 86th minute to seal victory for Poland against Saudi Arabia.

The Polish team who drew 0-0 with Mexico last Tuesday secured the needed victory to stand a chance of advancing to the knockout stage when they face Argentina next week Wednesday.

Lewandowski who now plays for Barcelona capitalised on a costly mistake by Saudi defender Abdulelah Al-Malki, stealing the ball from him and coolly rolling it past goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais to give Poland a 2-0 lead in the 82nd minute.

A beaming Lewandowski ran to his teammates to celebrate finally opening his World Cup account in his fifth match on football’s biggest stage.

Elsewhere, Australia secured their first victory of the tournament after a narrow 1-0 win over Tunisia.
