Final-year student shot dead during sign-out celebration

A celebratory moment turned tragic at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, when a final-year student was shot and killed during a sign-out event on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. The student, identified as Babalola Marvelous Ishola, was found dead by the roadside around 5:38 p.m.
Security personnel were alerted to an unattended male body and quickly responded to the scene.
They were able to confirm Babalola’s identity using his personal belongings. The Dean of Student Affairs at LAUTECH later verified that he was a student at the university. His body has been taken to the LAUTECH University Teaching Hospital morgue.

Following the incident, the Oyo State Police Command launched an immediate sting operation.
The police’s Monitoring Unit successfully arrested sixteen suspects believed to be connected to the shooting. Authorities have assured the public that a full investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.

The devastating event has cast a pall over what should have been a joyful occasion for the graduating class.
