First Lady welcomes first babies of 2025, presents gifts
On New Year’s Day, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu celebrated the arrival of Abuja’s first baby of the year at the Asokoro District Hospital.
The newborn, Favour Stephen Odion, a baby girl, was delivered to the family of Mr Odion Oyinbo and Mrs Chioma Odion at exactly 12:27 am on January 1, 2025.
Representing the First Lady, the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, extended prayers and blessings for the baby’s long life, good health, and prosperity. She also welcomed other newborns, including the first baby boy of the year, Zimchikachim Ejiofor, born at 7:14 am to the family of Mr. Ejiofor Nworie and Mrs. Delight Nworie.
“I am here to represent the mother of the nation to welcome the first baby of the year and other children. So, I’m presenting this token and a beautiful package to our dear daughter.
“I want to wish her well – long life, prosperity, good health. Insha Allah, they are the next generation to take over from us. I wish you all the best. Please take good care of her,” Hajiya Nana Shettima conveyed on behalf of the First Lady.
While congratulating the mothers, the First Lady emphasized the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, immunisation, and timely post-natal care. She assured the families of quality medical attention at the hospital, which she noted was conveniently located near her residence.

The First Lady also presented birth certificates to Favour Stephen Odion and Zimchikachim Ejiofor, celebrating their arrival with tokens and gifts. She moved through the maternity ward, offering her congratulations to other new mothers and their babies.
Dr. Rosemary Nwokorie, acting Chief Medical Director of Asokoro District Hospital, commended the Tinubu administration for its dedication to transforming Nigeria’s healthcare sector. She highlighted the positive strides being made to enhance healthcare services across the nation.
The joyful occasion marked a symbolic start to 2025, celebrating new life and renewed hope for the nation’s future.
