Flamingos shine at Leadership Awards, named sportsperson of the year

Nigeria’s U-17 girls, Flamingos, have been named the Sportsperson of the Year at the 14th edition of the Leadership Annual Conference and Awards ceremony held in Abuja on Tuesday.

The girls impressed at the 2022 FIFA U-17 World Cup with a third-place finish in India.

It was the first time in the history of the team to win the bronze medal at that level.

The team defeated Germany to finish third in the competition.

Ademola Olajire, NFF’s Director of Media and Communications, received the award on behalf of the team at the Abuja International Conference Centre.

The glamorous event was attended by Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, former Kenyan Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, FCT Minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, and Chairman of Leadership Group, Mrs Zainab Nda-Isaiah.

Other award winners include Benedict Oramah, General Buba Marwa, and Tobiloba Amusan who were named Persons of the year 2022.

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State were honoured as Governors of the year 2022.

While Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, popularly known as Kizz Daniel was named the Artiste of the year 2022.
