As a result of the torrential rainfall which caused serious flood, many houses were destroyed in Maruta village of Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

According to reports gathered by Desert Herald in Dutse, hundreds of families were rendered homeless and their properties worth billions of naira were also destroyed by water.

Investigation indicates that thousands of farm produce were washed away by the flood, while hundreds of people are now taking refuge at public buildings and with relatives.

The village head of Marita, Malam Sale Aliyu, confirmed the death of a twelve year old boy who fell inside the flood and instantly died.

The village head said for now more than 1000 families are taking refuge in a primary school and other public buildings, even as their healthcare facility is currently submerged in the floods.

The village head then appealed to the federal government and state as a matter of urgency to come to their support because he noticed the damage is beyond the power of the local government.

One of the victims, Malam Isa Bako, Sarkin Askar Maruta, said eight of his rooms were completely destroyed by the flood and he lost properties worth one and a half million naira including animals, mattresses, and herbal materials.
