Floods leave Mayo Selbe community in Taraba homeless, properties lost

In a devastating turn of events, Mayo Selbe community in Taraba State has been left reeling from the aftermath of destructive floods.

The heavy downpour that occurred on Friday night resulted in the loss of homes, farmlands, and valuable properties, estimated to be worth millions of naira.

This unprecedented natural disaster has not only displaced hundreds of residents but also caused the collapse of a vital bridge within the community.

Eyewitnesses, eager to avoid a repeat of such a catastrophe, are urgently seeking evacuation to higher grounds.

They are pleading with the relevant authorities to come to their aid during this dire time of need.

Thomas Maiyanga, the traditional ruler of Mayo Selbe, is calling upon both the state and Federal Governments to provide assistance in rebuilding not only their homes but their shattered lives.

The devastating flood has imposed immense hardships on his subjects, who, in most cases, have lost virtually everything.

Adding to the concerns, Mustapha Habib, the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), recently disclosed that the release of water from the Cameroon Lagdo Dam could potentially cause further disasters downstream of Nigeria.

Taraba state is among the regions listed to be at risk, along with Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Anambra, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, and Adamawa.

At this stage, it remains unclear whether the flood was caused by the release of water from the Cameroon Lagdo Dam or by the usual heavy downpour.
