Former deputy CG of customs, Ibrahim Idris Suleiman, dies at 66
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is in mourning following the passing of a distinguished retired senior officer, Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs Ibrahim Idris Suleiman, who passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2025, in Dubai after a brief illness.
In a statement issued on 8 April 2025 by the National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, expressed deep sorrow over the season officer’s demise.
Born on 20 October 1958 in Mani Local Government Area of Katsina State, the late DCG Suleiman began his academic journey at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History with Second Class Upper Division in July 1981. He subsequently completed the mandatory National Youth Service Corps in 1982.

Suleiman was enlisted into the Nigeria Customs Service on 4 August 1982 as an Assistant Superintendent of Customs. Over the course of a distinguished career, he rose through the ranks and was appointed Assistant Comptroller-General in 2011. In 2012, he was appointed Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs, a position he held until his retirement on 4 August 2017.
“DCG Suleiman was widely respected for his professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to national service”. CGC Adeniyi stated.
The Nigeria Customs Service, alongside his family, friends, and former colleagues, mourns his passing and prays that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives his shortcomings and grants him Aljannatul Firdaus as his final abode.
