A group of Yahoo Boys (internet fraudsters) who were arrested in Warri, Delta State, recently revealed to journalists on how they avoid being caught by security agencies.
They revealed that they send monies that could attract suspicion into pastor’s accounts whom overtime do have huge cash inflow in their accounts.
According to Jude (with real name withheld), one of the suspects paraded, some pastors which they have approached declined to give their account numbers, adding that the choice of pastors was based on the inability for security agencies to suspect them of fraud when huge sums of money drop into their accounts.
“We identify some rich pastors to use their accounts when we are expecting some good money.
“Some declined. You know security people will hardly suspect money that enters pastors’ accounts,” said the suspect.
He further revealed that men and officers of the Nigeria Police in Delta State make huge cash from them at various checkpoints on the road.
“They check our phones at checkpoints, and when they see any white man or woman’s photos in our phones they tell us what to pay and we start negotiating with them,” the suspect added.
While confessing, he said some of the policemen demand as much as N200,000 from them before letting them drive off, hinting that the monies demanded by the policemen were often paid into separate accounts that were not linked to the policemen.
Jude claimed that the reason they do not report was that their monies were not legit adding that only those with legit money go to report such cases.
“Only people with legit money go that far. What do I do for instance to have over N2,000,000 in my account?” he said.
Also, the suspect confessed that they avoid being arrested on the road by boarding Keke Napap (tricycles) still, they will be singled out from the passengers, adding that married men in their 40s and 50s are in the business despite their gentle appearances.
“This is why you see us run out of Keke when we see policemen at checkpoints.
“Sometimes we walk pass the policemen on the other side of the road to go and join the Keke, which would have been waiting for us after the checkpoint,” he said.
He said elderly people in their mid-40s and 50s were also in the yahoo business, informing that “Some decent-looking men with families are in this yahoo business.
“You won’t suspect them because they call themselves politicians. You see a politician with no office living large. Some are yahoo politicians,” he told journalists.
