Ghastly accident kills 4 women in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the death of four women and many injured in an accident that occurred in Jalam town in the Dambam local government area of the state.

Police Public Relations officer (PPRO), Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, confirmed the incident and the number of casualties.

He said that all four deceased were women and gave their names as Ai’shatu Salihu, 25; Furera Haladu, 25; Zuwaira Dandija, 19,Lahala Muhammed, 41.

The spokesman said the driver overloaded the vehicle with more than 30 people as passengers.

He said the people were going to a market in Sade, adding that the driver was running on high speed, which made him lose control of the vehicle.

The PRO said the vehicle summersaulted into a bush, causing serious injuries to the passengers inside.

Despite the intervention of police operatives, four people were pronounced dead upon arrival at a hospital.

He said the state Commissioner of Police, Awwal Musa Mohammed, commiserated with the family of the victims, urging them to remain calm while calling on drivers to always follow and obey traffic laws.

Narrating the unfortunate incident, some residents of Jalam said the accident happened in a village called Dutsin Hari, along Jalam to Lanzai road in Darazo Local Government Area.

They confirmed that the driver loaded many people in the car. While on his way to Jalam, the car lost control and fell into a bush where four people died and 16 people sustained injuries.

Among the 16 injured persons, nine are in Jalam town hospital, five people went to the General Hospital Dambam, and two people were taken to Azare because of the serious injuries they sustained.
