Gov. Buni empowers 40,500 flood victims, small business owners

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has launched an empowerment scheme worth 2.9 billion naira for 40,500 thousand beneficiaries in the state.
Governor Buni, while launching the empowerment programme on Wednesday at the Government House Damaturu, said the state supported 25,500 flood victims and vulnerable groups with an investment of ₦1.43 billion, providing financial assistance of ₦50,000 to each of the beneficiaries to support them in rebuilding their lives and regain stability.
According to him, in recognition of the vital roles of nano and small businesses in driving grassroots economic growth, the state is disbursing ₦1.5 billion to support 15,000 small business owners and entrepreneurs to foster financial inclusion and stimulate local economies.
The governor revealed that each beneficiary will receive ₦100,000 to grow their business and sustain their livelihoods. This brings the total to over N2.93 billion in support for the beneficiaries.
“These initiatives reflect the guiding principles of our administration: to protect the vulnerable, empower our citizens, and create pathways for self-reliance and prosperity.
“By investing in the flood victims, vulnerable groups and small business owners, we are addressing immediate recovery needs and laying the foundation for long-term economic resilience.

“The Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) programme we propose aligns with the global best practices and addresses the diverse needs of our citizens.
“We deliberately adopted direct funds transfer to empower the beneficiaries to prioritise their most urgent needs, and promote dignity, accountability, and economic recovery,” said Governor Buni.
He reiterated the commitment of this administration to the Renewed Hope Initiative by rendering more support to women, People With Disabilities, the elderly, and other vulnerable persons.
Buni further revealed that the government would continue to provide free education, accessible and affordable healthcare delivery, technological advancement and economic incentives to empower less privileged persons for economic growth.
He assured that the government would provide all the requirements needed for the take-off of the proposed Early Childcare Development Education Centre in the state.
