Gov. Buni lifts ban on riding motorcycles with conditions

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, on Monday approved the lifting of the ban on riding motorcycles in 7 Local Government Areas of Yobe East Senatorial districts.

This was contained in a statement signed by Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), Special Adviser on Security Affairs to the Governor.

The statement reads, “I am directed to convey the approval of the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni lifting the ban on riding of the motorbike as follows: the ban on the riding of a motorbike is hereby lifted with effect from 6th March 2023 in the 7 Local Government Areas of Zone A; namely: Bursari, Damaturu, Geidam, Gujba, Gulani, Tarmuwa and Yunusari.”

“The ban is lifted with the following conditions: Motorbikes are to operate between 6 am and 6:00 pm daily. Motorbikes are not to be used for commercial purposes ‘Achaba’. There will be no conveyance of passengers on motorbikes. Only a rider will be allowed without any other person on the motorbike.

“There should be proper registration, licensing, and documentation of all motorbikes and riders in the affected LGAs by the Yobe State Road Traffic Management Agency (YOROTA) and the Yobe State Vehicle Licensing Authority.

“All motorbikes are to operate within their respective LGAs only. Any motorbike rider(s) that conveys passenger(s) would be sanctioned by extant rules and regulations.

“There would be no inter-local government area movement with motorbikes. Anyone found violating this condition would be appropriately sanctioned,” the statement said.

The statement said all security agencies are requested to monitor and ensure strict compliance with the directives.
