Gov Radda inaugurates 550 2nd batch community watch corps
In a move aimed at bolstering local security efforts, Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Radda, on Friday, inaugurated the second batch of 550 recruits for the Katsina Community Watch Corps. The event took place at the College of Peace and Disaster Management along Babbar Ruga, Batsari Road.
The inauguration comes a little over a year after the launch of the first batch on October 10th of the previous year. Governor Radda praised the crucial role of traditional and religious institutions in combating insecurity. He urged the new corps members to continue engaging with community leaders to foster trust and unity.
“You are filling a vital gap with courage and a strong sense of responsibility. Your dedication will be instrumental in creating safer communities across Katsina State,” Governor Radda said, emphasizing a strategic shift from purely kinetic approaches to collaborative, community-driven efforts to enhance security.
The governor also highlighted the successes of the first batch, noting that areas under the watch of the corps have witnessed a significant drop in crime rates. He attributed this progress to the united efforts of local leaders, security operatives, and the corps members.
State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu Danmusa, revealed that the 550 new recruits were drawn from ten vulnerable Local Government Areas (LGAs), including Charanchi, Dutsinma, and Funtua. He commended the governor for his commitment to fostering peace and economic growth in the state.
In separate remarks, Katsina State Community Watch Corps Training Institute Commander ACG Babangida Abdullahi and Recruitment Committee Chairman, Major General Junaidu Bindawa (Rtd), outlined the rigorous training curriculum. It included community policing, intelligence gathering, and combat equipment handling.
Governor Radda paid tribute to fallen security operatives, urging the graduates to maintain integrity, professionalism, and respect for human rights in their duties. A one-minute silence was observed for departed security personnel, and prayers were offered in their memory.
The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, representing the State Security Forum, lauded Governor Radda’s support for security agencies and the state’s push for peace and prosperity.
