Group exonerates Dr Ogbonnaya Onu in FIIR DG’s suspension

A student’s group loyal to the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, has exonerated him of any link with the travails of the embattled acting Director-General of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIR) Oshodi, Lagos, Mr Chima Igwe, who is currently on suspension.
In a press release issued to our correspondent, Thursday, by Engr. Sunusi Abdul-Qadir Jos, President of the Northern Nigeria Youths and Students Front, stated that the minister cannot in any way be linked to the happenings with the suspended DG.
The release was issued in reaction to the allegation by another students’ group called ‘Arewa Youths Assembly’ that the minister orchestrated the suspension of the DG.

He described the allegation as a baseless, unfounded and apocryphal story that is hell-bent on injuring the reputation of the minister whom they claimed believes in due process.
“But out of his wanton display of ignorance, they are linking Dr Onu with what the suspended acting Director-General of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi, Lagos, Mr Chima Igwe is going through,” he said.
He, therefore, appealed to the group to stop ’embarking on the project of pulling down the minister, saying what the country needs now is building up in order to achieve the objectives of nation-building through technology, science and innovation as the minister is doing.
