Hippo attacks, kills Emir’s guard
Malam Usman Maigadi, a guard at Orchard Farm owned by the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, has been killed by a mother hippopotamus.
There are reports that the animal may have attacked in self-defense, perceiving the 60-year-old as a threat to her baby. The incident occurred on Sunday while Maigadi was fishing in the Yauri River at Tillo Village in Yauri Local Government Area.
“Maigadi has been buried according to Islamic rites in Yauri after a funeral prayer,” said the Chairman of the Local Government, Alhaji Abubakar Shu’aibu.
Governor Nasir Idris, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, expressed condolences to the Yauri Emirate and the family of the deceased.
Idris urged the emirate and the family of the deceased to take heart and accept the will of the Almighty in good faith.
The governor prayed to Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
