Hoodlums burn down palace of Eze-elect, loot valuables

In a shocking and distressing incident, the palace of Chief Ezekiel Nwokedi, the Eze-elect of Okwuru Orsuihiteukwo in the Orsu local government area of Imo State, was set ablaze by unknown gunmen. The tragic event unfolded on Saturday night, leaving the community in a state of fear and alarm.

Reports from Sahara Reporters detail that the gunmen not only burned down the palace but also looted valuables worth millions of naira before fleeing the scene. They ensured that the multi-million naira mansion was completely razed to the ground.

This unfortunate incident has further heightened fears among the remaining villagers, forcing many to seek refuge in nearby forests due to the repeated attacks by gunmen in Orsuihiteukwo.

The Eze-elect, who also holds the position of Chairman of Odinma Orsu Initiative (OOI), a prominent socio-cultural group, spoke to journalists in Owerri, recounting his distressing ordeal.

“During the attack on Saturday night, my home was invaded by hoodlums who looted valuables worth millions of naira before setting it on fire. I have lost everything. This is an incredibly tragic moment for me, and I am at a loss for words. I appeal to the Imo state government and security agencies to intervene,” he said.

Reports suggest that the Eze-elect has been actively involved in advocating for peace and security in the local government area through his Odinma Orsu Initiative. He had even initiated an amnesty program, resulting in a few gunmen voluntarily surrendering their arms. However, the recent surge in insecurity has left him deeply disappointed, especially when he believed that the situation was improving.

The Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident but indicated that they were yet to receive complete information.

He assured that once they were fully briefed, they would provide further updates on the investigation.
