Hoodlums kill corps member in Plateau

A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Safwan Fade, was tragically beaten to death by a group of hoodlums in the Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State. Fade, who was serving at the Federal College of Education (FCE) Pankshin, was attacked at a local stadium in the area.

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, confirmed the incident at a press briefing on Tuesday. He revealed that two suspects, Samuel Dang Kat and Zatshinen Wubwerwe, had been arrested in connection with the attack that led to the corps member’s death. The police also apprehended 24 other individuals for various crimes.

Adesina shared details of the incident, stating that the police received a report on January 23, 2025, from one Umbule Boreng Reuben, who informed them that Fade had been severely beaten by unknown individuals at the Pankshin township stadium on January 22, 2025, around 6:00 pm.

Upon receiving the report, the police acted swiftly, with officers from the Pankshin division rushing to the scene. Fade was initially treated at a local hospital and was later transferred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) due to complications. Unfortunately, he passed away during treatment.

During the investigation, the police identified and arrested the two main suspects, Kat and Wubwerwe. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals involved in the attack, with plans to bring them to court.

The Commissioner expressed his gratitude to the public for their cooperation, which has aided the police in their fight against crime. He also highlighted the successes of the Plateau State Police Command in recent operations, including the arrest of criminals and the recovery of arms and ammunition. Adesina commended the media for their support and assured the public that the police are committed to enhancing security in the state.
