How phone charging socket killed 2 lovers at home

Story from Sussan ONUOHA

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the death of a middle-aged man identified as Mr Eric and his yet-to-be-identified girlfriend who were found dead at their residence in the Ondo West Local Government Area of the state.

The duo, who occupied an apartment at the Ayeyemi area of the city, reportedly died on Saturday in the man’s apartment.

According to neighbours and residents in the area, the death of the couple has been linked to electrocution from making contact with a socket, which had a phone plugged on it and placed on the bed.

The eye witnesses further suggested that possible contact with the woman’s necklace, which she had on, could have led to the electrocution of the two lovers.

“The couple had put on a generating set and plugged a phone to a socket and placed it on their bed. It is possible that the woman’s chain made contact with the socket, resulting in electrocution, “one of the eye witnesses reported.

Another resident, identified as Mr Ayo, said Eric’s relatives found the bodies when they checked on him after he didn’t answer his phone.

On getting to his residence, they looked through the window and saw the bodies and then broke down the door to gain access into the house.

The spokesperson of Ondo State Police Command, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, while confirming the incident, disclosed that the deceased have been dating each other for about two years now and both families are aware of their relationship.

The remains of the deceased have since been evacuated and deposited at the morgue.
