I don’t mind my wife acting – Kano filmmaker

The immediate past chairman of the National Association of Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria Kano State Chapter, Alhaji Shuaibu Yawale Yakasai said that left to him, he would not mind allowing his wife to take acting as a career.
Speaking to Neptune Prime’s correspondent on Monday in Kano, the Kano filmmaker noted that if one marries a woman that is already into acting, there is no need to stop her because acting is like any other profession in the society. And as such, there is nothing bad in allowing married women to be acting full time or part-time.

The film producer, who is also a director and a lecturer with Federal College of Education, Kano noted further that some people are accusing Hausa film actresses of having failed marriages because when a lady is already successful in her career and is getting money almost on a daily basis, you cannot marry her and lock her up because when you are broke she will definitely run away.
Similarly, he said that the impression people have that those in the Kannywood industry are wayward is not a true picture of their character. “Today, you have people with first and second degrees earning their living in the popular Hausa film industry either as producers, directors, editors, actors or actresses,” he said, calling on well to do Nigerians to bring their money and invest in the industry.
Alhaji Shuaibu Yawale Yakasai lamented that his children are already into acting and if they want to make it a career, he will not stop them but rather encourage them because these days acting is a lucrative business where one can make money easily.
So far, according to him, he has produced more than ten films. He also featured in many successful Hausa films because he has been in the industry for long and can always produce or act in a film that is in conformity with the culture, religion and tradition of the north.
Similarly, he expressed his deep regret that some people did not allow the Federal Government to continue with the proposed film village in Kano State. If the project is allowed to continue, the film village will bring lots of revenue to the Kano State government, the Federal government and filmmakers all over the northern region. But some people used religion to kill this laudable project which President Muhammadu Buhari wanted to be located in Kano to compensate Kannywood artists that assisted him during the general elections in 2015.
