I have fulfilled my campaign promises to Nigerians – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that the 2015 campaign promises he made to Nigerians have been fulfilled by his administration.

The president said this at the 7th convocation of the Federal University in Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, stating that he had delivered in the areas of the economy, security, and the fight against corruption.

He added that the Chairman of the Nigerian Body of Benchers, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), the former Managing Director of First Bank, Bisi Onasanya, and the former captain of the Super Eagles, Segun Odegbami, were awarded honorary degrees for their contributions to national development.

He stated that his campaign promises were based on improving the economy, enhancing security, and fighting against corruption, and he expressed his satisfaction with the fact that these three areas had seen tremendous advancement.

Speaking further, President Buhari said the current government has placed Nigeria on irreversible paths to greatness, even though the country has not yet reached its El Dorado.

He stated, “Let me remind everyone that the foundation of my campaign to become president in 2015 was the promise to enhance security, strengthen the economy, and combat corruption. With immense gratitude to Almighty Allah, I am bold enough to assert that we have fulfilled the three promises.

“At the time of my inauguration, the nation was under siege from terrorism and other forms of insecurity. I confidently assert that the war against terrorism has been fought and won, as all territories lost to terrorist organisations have been reclaimed. And terrorism in Nigeria is currently on its deathbed.

“It is also noteworthy that under my leadership, Nigeria rose from the briny waters of near-economic collapse to become the continent’s largest economy. This is no easy task. It is not a certainty. It can only be the result of a well-planned growth strategy.

“Prior to my election as president in 2015, the country was likewise gripped by corruption. It is also widely acknowledged that the actions of my government, including the implementation of the TSA, the whistleblower policy, and the stepping up of anti-corruption agency prosecutions, have helped to halt the rise of corruption in the country.

“In addition to the three fundamental areas, he stated that his administration had revamped the education sector by increasing funding for human capital and infrastructure development.

“While it is impossible to allocate all of the country’s available funds to the education sector, it is common knowledge that my administration, since its inception on May 29, 2015, has steadily increased funding for the sector in its annual budgets.”

Also speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fasina, stated that the institution had carved a niche for itself on the international grid of academic excellence in record time.

Fasina congratulated the graduates on their academic achievements, and Fasina urged them to continue to be good representatives of the university and positively promote its reputation.
