Senator Aisha Binani has fired back at the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, in the ongoing tussle over who controls the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Adamawa state.
Senator Binani, the only female senator from Nigeria’s northern region, tells the SGF and other party chieftains, including Aisha Buhari, wife of Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari, that she is the leader of the party in the state.
This follows a barrage of accusations that she was undermining SGF Mustapha, former Governor Jibrilla Bindo, Nuhu Ribadu, Aisha Buhari and other power blogs, in a bid to control the APC.
But in a swift reaction through a proxy, Binani took a swipe at her critics, insisting that as the highest-ranking elected official of the APC stock in the state, she was better qualified to lead the party at that level.
Mauludu Usman Ibrahim, an aide of the senator, had argued thus, “she is second to none in the hierarchy of our party, given her current status as the only APC senator in the state.
“Therefore, to attempt to subjugate her to someone else is simply laughable; meaning she is naturally the leader of the party”, he said. But Mohammed Bappare, speaking for the Boss/Bindo group, argued that the claim does not hold water. To him, the National Leader of the party, Bola Tinubu is not known to hold any elective office in the country. He said, “Binani wants to be governor in 2023, that is why she is fueling the leadership crisis”.
